1. Fun Comes First: Remember, the primary aim of sports at this age is to have fun and enjoy time with peers. Encourage your kids to enjoy the game and build friendships, as these experiences are just as important as the skills they learn on the field.
2. It’s Their Time, Let Them Shine: This is their moment to show what they’ve learned, so let them take the spotlight. Resist the urge to coach from the sidelines; instead, watch with pride as they navigate the game on their own.
3. Applaud Effort Over Outcome: Celebrate the effort and determination your child shows, regardless of the game's outcome. Acknowledge their hard work and perseverance, as these qualities are more important than winning or losing.
4. Be a Good Sport Too: Model the behaviour you want to see in your child. Show respect to referees, coaches, and other supporters. Remember, our tamariki are watching and learning from us.
5. Love Watching Them Play: Enjoy the moment and cherish the joy of watching your child play. Your presence and support mean the world to them, so make sure they know how much you love seeing them out there having fun.
