We are officially half way through the term and we are happy to see our next cohort of New Entrant children join Room 3 with Whaea Elisha. We had our mihi whakatau to welcome these new akomanga (students) and their whānau. There has been lots of illness around the kura (school) especially tummy bugs, colds and flus. Please keep your child home if they are sick. Just a reminder that school is not open until 8.30am so if you need to drop off your child earlier please book them into sKIDS which is run out of our school hall.

Kia ora e te whānau
What a busy time we had with Ngā Tauira o Te Taiao - Art Exhibition in week 4, that was simply amazing. We also had our problem-solving hats on for Maths Week and daily challenges.
Last week we began our Kingitanga Inquiry connecting to local history and identifying the rich learning opportunities in our community. It worked well with the Koroneihana celebrations happening at Tūrangawaewae Marae at the time. Students are learning about our Māori kings and queen of the Kingitanga, the stories and the significance of Tūrangawaewae Marae in the heart of the Waikato.
Play, Make and Create
We love to play, make and create. It fosters creativity and mental growth in children by providing opportunities for trying out new ideas, new ways of thinking and problem-solving. Please keep sending your unwanted cereal boxes, odds etc and ends that we love to create with.
Kauri Team
Kia ora,
Last week I was invited to Room 8 to listen to their amazing writing from the perspective of nature. They were convincing humans not to destroy ‘them’, from the perspective of the ocean, the forest, ice and the mountains. They were all very impressive; using emotive language, rhetorical questions and lots of descriptive language.
Last Monday a group of students were selected to participate in a music lesson run by the NZ Symphony Orchestra in preparation for the NZSO Symphonic Storms’ Schools’ Concert this Friday. We had lots of fun making weather sounds and were impressed with the violin and saxophone that two of the performers shared.
Sports & Hauora
Competitive Cross Country & Haerenga Māia
Our annual Competitive Cross Country and Haerenga Māia events are just around the corner, happening next Friday, the 6th of September!
Competitive Cross Country - 9:30 am - 10:30 am - Pūtikitiki Field
This exciting event is for Years 4-6 students who are trialling for our South-East Cluster Interschool Cross Country. These tamariki can sign up for this event by talking to their teacher. The top 4 runners will advance to the Hamilton Gardens for the interschool cross country the following week. Whānau are welcome to support their tamariki at this event.
Haerenga Māia - 11:30 am - 12:30 pm - Pūtikitiki Field
Formerly known as our 'Fun Run', Haerenga Māia means 'Brave Journey'. This new name celebrates our hauora (wellbeing) and the joy of movement. It's a whole school event where our tamariki will run 1-2 laps of our school obstacle course.
This year's theme is colours! Encourage your tamariki to dress in their favourite colour, colours, or as colourful characters. Whānau are more than welcome to come to support and even participate if they wish!
Te Hononga
Our next Hononga Hui will be on Thursday 5th September at 3.30pm in Room 3. All welcome.
We took a group of Year 6 Kapahaka tamariki to the Koroneihana last Tuesday for the morning. It was a wonderful morning and we were able to see some of our Pasifika leaders greeting the Kingi.
