Happy New Year. We welcome you to Hamilton East School for 2024 .

I would like to extend a warm welcome to new whanau/families to Hamilton East School .

We also welcome 5 new teaching staff.

Thank you to teachers and support staff who worked during January in preparation for the school year.

The year has started positively with keen learners and settled classrooms.

Please ensure your children bring swimming gear as learning to be safe around water is compulsory especially in NZ.

This newsletter is published fortnightly on a Tuesday.  (Yes, I realise it is already Thursday!).

Newsletters contain everything you will need to know for upcoming events and dates.

 

Newsletters are posted to our community notice board via our school app HERO. If you have the app downloaded and are logged in you will receive a notification of new notices from the school. But, if you do not have HERO downloaded or logged in, you will receive an email saying that there are new notices. Here you will have to open the link via a browser. If you do not receive anything at all, this means we have an incorrect email address in our system.

Alternatively, you can collect a hard copy of the newsletter from the office. You can also view the newsletter on our website Hamilton East School. You can also opt to receive this newsletter by email if you wish. Email office@hameast.school.nz and ask to be added to the list!

Students are welcome at school from 8:25 am. The sKids Before School Care Programme operates for those who need to bring their child earlier than this. 

Teachers are in their classrooms from 8:30 to 9:00 am. You are welcome to visit classrooms before 9:00am.

Any children who come before 8:25am are unsupervised.

There are many ways to engage with our school community

The FUNdraising Team meets in the staffroom (upstairs from the office), on a week evening at 7.30pm, about twice a term to support special projects in the school. Please join us. Meetings are always over by 9:00, and often earlier.

All parents/caregivers welcome.

Have the HERO app downloaded/or access to HERO to keep track of your child's learning progress and all school notices. Please visit the office if you do not know how to access HERO.

Welcome to all of our new tamariki (children) and whānau (families) who have started school with us this year.  We have had lots of smiling faces and happy tamariki reconnecting with their hoa (friends).

Kōwhai team have been swimming this week and learning about how to be safe in the water.  We have also been going out as part of our Tūrangawaewae unit. Tamariki have been sketching the special trees around our kura (school)

Tōtara tamariki are very excited to be back at school and are ready for a year filled with lots of exciting new learning experiences! Tamariki are getting to know their new kaiako/teachers and their peers in their new classrooms.

This term a huge focus is Swimming. Tamariki are looking forward to swimming sessions which are starting this week! We have Swim Safe instructors for the next two weeks. Therefore bringing togs and a towel every day is so important to make the most of these skill sessions. If your child is unable to swim please contact the class teacher.

It is terrific to be in the Tōtara Team!

Kia ora te Whānau.

Kauri Team has had a great start to 2024 and it has been wonderful popping into classes and seeing our tamariki engaged and happy to be back with their hoa (friends). 

We have been lucky enough to have time at Gallagher Pools for Water Safety where we have been learning how to be safe in the water. This is so important for all our students. Please remember your togs!

We look forward to seeing you all at the Whānau Hui/Family Picnic next Wednesday.

Come and meet teaching staff and whānau/other families. Introductions and 'karakia kai' at 5pm. 

Pool will open at 5:30.

Swimming pool will  be open. 

Bring your own kai and /or there are Sausages for sale cash/eftpos  - Beef /Pork, Halal and Vege.

Pop into the school library to look at the Book Fair. Children will have the opportunity to look at the books on offer throughout the week.

Cash and eftpos will be available for book purchases.
