Welcome to Term 2 and we extend a warm welcome to new families and their children.

Our new New entrant class in Room 4 is underway and next week Room 10, Years 5/6 will open with Alex Gardiner as the teacher. 

Alex attended Hamilton East School a number of years ago!

The Ministry of Education and Hamilton East School are focusing on optimum attendance for all students. This means we follow up on all student absences.  

The board is concerned with the number of students who are being collected before 3pm.

The only justified reason for collecting your child before 3pm is a medical appointment or an emergency. Please notify the office in regard to medical appointments early in the day so that teachers can be notified. 

Collecting children early is disruptive to learning and teaching and is no longer an option.  Please do NOT interrupt the class before 3 pm. We are happy for you to wait  outside the room or on Te Wehenga  ( Dawson Field).

We value your support in ensuring all children are given the best opportunity for learning.

Week 1

Tēnā koutou whānau,

It was great to come back to school and see all the smiling faces of your tamariki!  The Kōwhai team welcomes Whaea Monika who has started our next class with 5 new children.  They have been welcomed to Hamilton East and have been enjoying their first few days at school.

Next week we are holding a hui to share with whānau what we do with structured literacy at Hamilton East.  

We will start with a slideshow explaining what structured literacy is and then the teachers will be available to show you some of the activities that we do with your children.  We look forward to seeing you if you are able to make it!

Kia Ora e te whānau, 

We started with a short week due to our teacher only day and ANZAC day. Across the team we have been reading, reading and writing  poetry, writing, and researching all things ANZAC to commemorate New Zealanders lost at war, and to honour our returned and serving servicemen and women.

We have created some great art pieces - from finger painting to photography, sketching and painting. The children have created works that we are all really proud of. Through our learnings and our mahi - we will remember them.

Kapa Haka - our Kapa Haka rōpu performed today at their first official mihi whakatau for our Japanese visitors and new staff. Their performance was outstanding and we are so proud of them. We look forward to many more performances where they stand tall & reach high! Whaea Kat and Whaea Brooke are our kaiako for this rōpu. 

We welcome Alex Gardiner to the Kauri Team. He will be teaching in Room 10 Alex is an ex pupil of Hamilton East School and has a variety of experience that he brings to the role. He was welcomed today at our mihi whakatau.

Year 5 & 6 Winter Sports Tournament - This is coming up on the Thursday 18th of May, Week 4 at the University Grounds. We will be taking a soccer, netball and hockey team. We will send a note home at the start of week 3 if your child is involved. We will be looking for parent helpers to support on this day so please let us know on the permission form if you are available to help.

Winter Sports - Congratulations to the hockey players who played their first games of the season last weekend. Good luck to Year 1 & 2 hockey and the netball teams who play this week. If you haven’t paid your fees yet, please do so as soon as possible. A huge thank you to the parents and whanau who have volunteered to coach and manage teams this season. We cannot offer teams without your support and we really appreciate you!

Playball Bookings now open for term 2 at Hamilton East starting next Friday! 

Playball is an after school activity for children 5- 9 years where we teach children the foundation of different many popular NZ sports. Children will learn skills such as hockey, baseball, soccer and tennis among many others. We teach children multisports with the aim to give them a set of core skills before specialising in later life. Playball is for everyone - our goal is self improvement! 

 

 

Children will be picked up from their classrooms and then Playball will commence after a short drink and snack break (Please pack a snack for your child). Parents are asked to pick their child up at 4pm from the school. 

Friday's: 3:00pm - 4pm

Starting next week (Friday!) 

Term 2: May 12th - June 30th, $96

A community-wide consultation has been undertaken to introduce Cohort Entry:

 

Feedback received has been positive towards implementing a Cohort Entry Policy.

We intend to implement a Cohort Entry Policy from the start of Term 3.
