Kia ora koutou,

Thank you so much for your support when we visited Hukanui Marae . We value this experience for all our tamariki as part of our Turangawaewae Unit of learning for Term 1. A huge thank you to Hukanui tangata whenua for hosting us,  Matua Taki for his korero on our behalf, Whaea Robyn for liaising, Kapa Haka for performing and making us proud and Sue for organising ALL those buses!

Next week our new classrooms and library will be blessed at 6:30 am. 

A number of Ministry of Education personnel will be coming from Hamilton and one from Wellington. This is because the design is new and innovative. 

We hope that teachers will have moved in and be ready for Term 2.

Some classrooms will have new numbers next term. See link below. You will notice the change for your child on HERO, Seesaw and our website which is new and improved !

 Due to Roll Growth we will have 2 new classes opening in Term 2.

 Monika Kumra will teach a New Entrant class in Room 4

As you may have noticed we are no longer putting photos on facebook. They can now be found on our school website under the photos tab. We will still continue to post notices and other important things on Facebook but no photos of tamariki.

 

Next term we have the dental van coming to school. They will be in contact with you if they want to see your child/dren.

The Kōwhai children enjoyed their trip to the Marae from the excitement of travelling on the bus, to being formally welcomed with a Powhiri (a first for many of our little ones) to then being able to see the carvings and tukutuku panels in the wharenui.

We have the Kiwi open morning this Thursday the 30th of March where new families can come and look around our school and the year one classes.  Tamariki can come and play with the other children and it is one of the ways that we help tamariki transition into school.

Thank you to all our parents that accompanied us on our Hukanui Marae trip. It was a special morning for all of us.

Our visit to Hukanui Marae

I was so exhilarated to see Whaea Robyn’s marae. We had to go on 5 buses to get there. Once we got there the first thing I saw was an ocean of blue hats. There were so many kids, it was cool! I loved it. Then we went to the gateway and I saw my brothers but only one saw me. One of my brothers was at the back of the line and he has ginger hair. I was nervous walking on to the marae but later I felt really good.

Thank you to all our parents who came on the Hukanui Marae trip. The Kauri tamariki really enjoyed performing Kapa Haka as a whole team! We’d also like to thank you for supporting our trips to the Waikato museum. The tamariki are loving being able to go on trips again and the quality of the programme at the museum is fantastic. 

In Akomamga Waru we are learning to use adjectives to write different poems. We watched the video Not a Stick, to get ideas to write our own interesting sentences.

Final Call! Online registration for winter sports is still open - but closing soon. Please follow this link to go to the school sports website. On this page you will find the link to fill out an online form to register your child for sport.

In order to have a full team to enter in competitions, we are still looking for some players and coaches for Year 1 & 2 Netball.

Cricket: Kia ora Tōtara and Kauri cricketers: our Term 1 season has been impacted by the weather but we finally had some nice days for cricket last Friday evening and Saturday morning. The last games  this term are this weekend so I hope to see you on Te Wehenga  on Friday 4:30–6PM and Saturday morning 11AM–12:30PM.

Good luck to our year 5 & 6 touch Team heading to the Jansen Park Touch Tournament on Friday. All whānau welcome to support. We are travelling by bus and leaving at 9:00 and will return before the 3:00 bell. Please contact Emily if you have any questions.

We currently have continuous entry for new entrants to start school on or after their 5th birthday. We propose to change to a cohort entry for new entrants from Term 3 2023. This would mean students would start school as a group at the beginning or mid point of a term after their fifth birthday.
