150 Year Celebration!

 Kia ora koutou!

This week we finished our presentation of the HES 150 year celebration! We had such a fantastic time finding out about our schools history (particularly our school buildings). Seeing how things changed in time was just mind blowing for many of the tamariki in RM20 (see some of the sketches below).

We also had a VERY problematic week - because it was full of problem solving! Our maths and literacy programmes had us thinking very outside of the box, so did our te reo and digital technology! It was so fascinating seeing how tamariki problem solve as individuals, in groups and in whole class situations. If you would like to try some of our problem solving activities from during the week, I'll add a link below :)

Week 5 - Bugs!

 Kia ora whānau!

A shorter week for myself but we achieved so much! Thursday and Friday, we had a couple of BUG DAYS! Thanks to Whaea Arna and Doreen who have a fantastic caterpillar display outside, the tamariki were absolutely fascinated!

This week the tamariki of RM20 wrote about life as a bug, from a bugs point of view. We read about the scariest things in the garden and then designed some scary things that can be found in a garden (would you be surprised to know that many of them described vegetables as the scariest things to come from a garden). They even became scientist and learned all about the life cycle of a Monarch Butterfly (be sure to ask them about it) - this activity can be found on Seesaw!

Enjoy a couple of our pictures below!

Treaty of Room 20

 Kia ora koutou!

Last week, we finalised our Classroom Treaty and it was full of fantastic contributions and ideas from the students. We are currently learning about Turangawaewae - and the history of our local area. Important and fascinating conversations were had about the Treaty itself. I will share with you our main Treaty agreements (and again, these are things our wonderful students came up with).

1. We respect everyone, and treat others how we want to be treated.

2. We allow everyone the opportunity to learn.

3. We make everyone feel welcome and safe.

4. Always try our best.

These are amazing ideas that resonate with our classroom and school as a whole.

Welcome Back to School RM20 whānau!

Kia ora! Yesterday we welcomed the school year with wonderful weather and positive attitudes. Everyone  was so excited to be back at school getting to see and meet new friends and teachers. We’re all looking forward to a fantastic 2022!

Wheelbarrow Sketching

We went and closely observed the wheelbarrow that had been left in the pool area.  Surprisingly, there are oak trees growing in the wheelbarrow! We think that the seeds must have blown into the wheelbarrow by the wind and the sun and rain have helped the seeds to grow.

Beautiful Butterfly

We have really enjoyed watching Doreen's caterpillar and swan plant over the past few weeks.

We were lucky enough to watch the caterpillar turn into a chrysalis and then into a butterfly!

Doreen's Swan Plants and Hungry Catepillars

Doreen brought her Swan Plant to school for us to look at and to observe the caterpillar!

We did some sketching of the swan plant and the caterpillars.

Look at our stunning work!
